MARJORIE MARIE MCELWEE

Marjorie “Margie” Marie McElwee, age 82, passed away on August 13, 2024. Margie 
was born in Delhi, LA to Dr. Newell and Gussie McElwee. She graduated from 
Northwestern University in Education, and her playful nature suited her well for 
a career devoted to primary education. She adored her kindergarten and first 
grade students, and she especially loved teaching them reading and writing.

Margie had two children, whom she loved dearly. She was happiest in the presence 
of her children and their families. Her time away from family was spent doing 
volunteer work at the Strauss Playhouse. She thrived working backstage helping 
with the production of many plays and musicals.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Newell and Gussie McElwee. She 
is survived by her son and his wife: Brant and Amy Jones and their children Evie 
Chase and Elise; her daughter: Sara Jones and her children Ella Ruth and Oliver 
Klug; and, her brother and his wife: Newell and Stephanie McElwee and their son 
Frederick.

A visitation will be held at Mulhearn’s Funeral Home on Thursday, August 15, 
2024 from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to 
the Strauss Theater Center: straussstc.com/donation.
