Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA with Dr. Randy Burdeaux officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA. Mrs. McGrew was born on January 12, 1928 in Hico, LA and passed away on September 3, 2014 in West Monroe, LA. She was a dedicated teacher with the Ouachita Parish School System for 33 years and also a substitute for another 15 years. Her service extended to her church, Mount Vernon Baptist Church, as she worked with children, helped start the church library, and sang in the choir for 50 years. Mrs. McGrew was loved by many and is preceded in death by her parents, George Franklin and Lula E. Wagoner Owens; and by her brothers, J. Oswald Owens, Benjamin F. Owens and Charles Owens. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, James Clayton McGrew; daughters, Pat Arrant and husband, Jim, and DeWanna Eady and husband, Mike; son, J. Scott McGrew and wife, Karen; brother, C. Lamar Owens and wife, Sue; sisters, Marjorie Gard, Emma Lou Bush and Willie Lee Lovett and husband, William W.; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Charles Wayne Bush, Lane Bush, Guy Owens, Benji Owens, Brett Lovett and Kirt Lovett. Visitation will be held at Mount Vernon Baptist Church on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The Family would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. McGrew's caregivers, Geraldine Lenard, Dianne Brown, Ethel Craft and Janice Caples, for the time and care they gave during her illness.
