She was born June 30, 1926, in Glenmora, Louisiana to Jessie Lee Orr and Lonie Monroe Orr. She married the love of her life, Albert Gordon McKee, Jr. on August 9, 1947. Irma grew up in Glenmora, Louisiana. She was Valedictorian of her High School. She attended Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, majoring in Home Economics and minoring in Math. She was the first female chemistry lab assistant at Tech. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1946 and was Valedictorian of her class. She earned her Master's Degree in English Education. Irma worked for Marbury Insurance for several years before becoming a stay- at-home Mom, and then teaching Freshman English at Ruston High School from 1968 to 1988. After teaching at RHS for 15 years she was voted by her peers as "Outstanding Teacher of the Year". She conducted in-service workshops and worked on the Lincoln Parish curriculum committee where she helped to devise the minimum standards test that all students had to pass. She was also on the book selection committee. Irma served in all offices of the local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, including President for 2 years. That organization's mission was to enhance educational ideas. Additionally she served on a number of state committees. Irma was also a member of Magi Chapter #85 Order of The Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron of that Masonic organization. Irma was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Albert, and by her parents, Lee and Lonie, brother, Edward, and two infant grandchildren. She is survived by daughters Diane Jones and husband Marquis of Holiday Island, Arkansas; Barbara Andries and husband Roger of Long Beach, California; and Margaret Hill and husband Billy of Splendora, Texas; and her son Stephen McKee of Seymour, Connecticut. She is also survived by four granddaughters Michelle Harper, Heather Smith, Jennifer Isaacson, and Stephanie McKee and five great grandchildren. Other family includes her brother and sister-in-law Virgil and Myrtis Orr. Visitation will be held at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 28 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Burkhalter Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston, Louisiana. A private burial service will be held earlier that day. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the J.L.
