Brown is preceded in death by his parents William B. McLemore Sr., and Maurice Turner McLemore. Survivors include: wife of 25 years Mary Catherine Gordy McLemore. Three sons: William (Bill) McLemore III and wife Lori, Thomas Miller (Tom) McLemore and wife Tammy, and John C. McLemore and wife Angel. Three grandchildren, Hunter Logan McLemore, Haley BreAnna McLemore, Emily Dennis and her husband Stephen with their son Everett. Brown is also survived by the mother of his children Betty Miller McLemore of Winnsboro. Special friend and best kitty cat foot warmer is Zipper. Brown McLemore was a local farmer, born April 4, 1931 in Natchez, Ms to William Brown McLemore, Sr., and Maurice Turner McLemore. He graduated Gilbert High School in 1948, NEJC 1950, LSU Summa Cum Laude 1952, US Army 1952-1954, Meat and Dairy Hygiene School and worked as inspector to supply meat and dairy for 4th Army in El Paso, Texas. Learned to fly, King of Yambiliee 1984, was 50 yr volunteer fireman, kept a daily diary for over 50 years, 40 yr treasurer for local farm bureau, 71 yr member of First Baptist Church of Gilbert, led the singing for years and could not carry a tune. Planted 50 crops of sweet potatoes, roadside market for sweet corn for 25 years, always guaranteed a "worm in every ear". He came home from a Florida trip with Farm Bureau and announced how he could get rid of the worms in the corn--buy a helicopter! Many awards and honors thru the years. Named "Life Long Farmer of the Year" at 1993 Festival and said "A man can make it in farming these days if his wife has a job in town and brings the check home." Always know for his humor, he was a familiar sight in his old yellow van. Diagnosed with Parkinson's disease June 2005, he was able to be at home until February 2010. "Distinguished Service Award 2010 by Louisiana Sweet Potato Association. Has contributed to the Louisiana sweet potato industry in multiple aspects throughout the years. Funeral services for William Brown McLemore, Jr. will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel in Winnsboro, LA at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oakley Cemetery near Gilbert, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Services are by Rev. Marion Collier and Rev. Don Blackmon. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to be made to First Baptist Church of Gilbert or a charity of your choice in Brown's honor.
