McVay was born on September 17, 1928 in Franklin Parish and went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 1, 2009 in Delhi, LA. He was the son of the late Clayton and Crittie McVay. He is also preceded in death by seven brothers, Homer, O'Neal, Everett, Grant, Chalmos, Lacy and Tracy McVay and one sister, Rose Odom. Curtis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise Bryant McVay of Delhi; two daughters, Kathryn McVay of Monroe, LA and Carolyn Leggitt and husband Keith of Delhi, LA; two sons, Lanny McVay and wife Mary and Alan McVay and wife Candace all of Monroe, LA; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel Spence of Bossier City, LA and Fann Meyer of Monroe, LA and one brother, Wilburn McVay of Sterlington, LA. Mr. Curtis was a longtime bricklayer who retired in 1981 due to bad health. He loved his brickwork and was known all over the area for his work. He was a member and deacon for 52 years at Westside Baptist Church in Delhi where he served his Lord and church until his health kept him from attending. He touched many people through his occupation and in his service to the Lord. He loved gospel music and it was a joy to him to play the piano and mandolin. He played at church many times and loved to play music with his sons and family. Visitation will be held at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Friday, October 2, 2009. A memorial service will be held at the Westside Baptist Church in Delhi at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 3, 2009 with Rev. Steve Hillman and Rev. Bill Lovett officiating. Burial will be in Faith Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Donnie Williams, Philip Williams, Brandon McVay, Jimmy Farrar, Kevin Nunnery and Hammy Peariou. Any planned memorials may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
