MERCER Funeral services for James E. Mercer, 73, of Crowville, LA will be at 2 PM Sunday , June 2, 2013 at Crockett Point Baptist Church with Rev Joe Senn and Rev. Jimmy Goodman officiating, with burial in the Crockett Point Church Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro, LA. Visitation will be 5:00 PM-9:00 PM Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the church. James was born to the union of his parents; Julius and Ola Mae Wiggins Mercer on December 6, 1939 in Winnsboro, LA and called home from this life May 30, 2013 at his residence in Crowville. He was a devoted husband, father, papaw and friend; He was a member of Crockett Point Baptist Church where he served 27 years as a Deacon and Deacon Emeritus. He was a man with a servant's heart and a prayer warrior for the church. James was an Army veteran, and retired with the National Guard, and LA State Highway Dept. James was highly loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother: Jarrell Mercer. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Mercer of Crowville, LA; three daughters: Rhonda Lockridge and husband Ricky of Crowville, LA; Lori Hackney and husband Doug of Crowville, LA; Amy Bassett of Winnsboro, LA ;grandchildren: Eric Lockridge, Ashley Smith, Lauren Lockridge, Heath Hackney, Dylan Hackney, Lauren Neathery, Chelsea Hackney, Tyler Lively, Cole Lively, Brayden Bassett, Blake Lively, Mandy Gibson, Ryan Fulford; great granddaughter: Ashlynn Smith; a host of family and friends. Pallbearers will be Bobby Cox, Ricky Caldwell, Jerry Patrick, Dan Robinson, Charlie Gwin, Jerry Mercer , Gary Mercer, Rudy Eldridge, and Larry Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
