Martha, the youngest daughter of seven children of Asa and Susan Ray, is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Anthony (Tony) P. Messina, Sr. of Monroe, LA; her children, Suzzanne Allen and her husband Danny of Houston, TX; Cindy Brewer of Virginia Beach, VA; and Anthony P. Messina, Jr . and his wife Nancy of Monroe, LA; her grandchildren, Jacqueline Allen-Wilson, Mark Allen, Richard Allen, John Allen, Mason Haneline, Mary Amanda Messina, and Catherine Pauline Messina Myers; her great grandchildren, Connor Christian Bagwell, Samuel Patrick Matson, Pyron McKenzie Meyers and Nellie Cooper Meyers; her brother, Asa M. Ray of Monroe, LA; and many nieces and nephews. Martha graduated from high school in Columbia at the age of sixteen and moved to Monroe where she completed business school while working to support herself. During World War II she worked in the office of the Support Depot Headquarters, War Department, at Selman Field. She married Anthony Messina on December 12, 1942. Following the war she worked with her husband at Monroe Frozen Foods, serving as Vice President of the company while also raising a family. She was a devoted member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church where she taught Guardian Angel Sunday School for many years and volunteered with the Ladies Circle at the church to help in a myriad of fund raising and charitable activities. She worked closely with the teachers and staff of Jesus the Good Shepherd School, serving on committees and volunteering in the classroom. Nana, as she was known by many, was an incredible lady who loved Jesus, her family, friends, and life itself. She was the spark of the family, always encouraging her children and grandchildren to follow their dreams. She served as an inspiration to all who knew her and will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful caregivers at Christus St. Joseph's Home, and Hospice First Choice, with special thanks to Emoline Brass and Sharon Mathis for such devoted, loving care for Martha. Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family for visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, at Mulhearn Funeral Home located at 2308 Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 11 at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 900 Good Shepherd Lane, Monroe, where Father David Richter will officiate. The interment at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy 80 will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Martha's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
