On March 19, 2009, he succumbed to Acute Myelogenous Leukemia at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Michael first went to school in Meridian, MS upon his family's return home to Monroe, he attended Georgia Tucker Elementary, Lee Junior High, and graduated from Neville in 1970. He took classes at Louisiana Tech and Northeast Louisiana University; in 1985, he graduated from LSU, and remained an ardent Tiger fan throughout his life. Michael was a lifelong sports enthusiast and especially loved baseball. After starting in the Minor Leagues in Joliet, IL, he played in Monroe's Little and Dixie Leagues. His wide range of interests led him to jobs in a variety of fields and places: he spent time on the Alaskan pipeline, sold car phones in Baton Rouge in the 80's, and was a realtor and real estate appraiser in Pensacola. In 2006, Michael and his wife Mary turned their love for technology, music, and film into a business, Digital Imaging, LLC. Michael is survived by his wife Mary Dossett Miles, daughter Megan Moncrief of New York, his parents Landon and Virginia Miles, his sister Margaret McInnis and her husband Mike McInnis, and his aunt Juanita V. The family wishes to thank Dr. Owen Meyers and Dr. Marshall Leary of Monroe, as well as Dr. Cortes, Dr. Thomas, Dr. O'Brien, Dr. Borthakur, Dr. Estrov, Dr. Sampat, Dr. Velev, and the nurses and staff of MD Anderson for their expert care and kindness; thank you also to the doctors and lab technicians at the Holly Hall Blood Bank. The world is full of wonderful people, and when given the opportunity to step forth and aid Michael in the battle for life, the following individuals donated white blood cells: Bill Haile and Janice Pomeroy of Baton Rouge, Shane Dossett, Emily Rash, and Tammye Turpin of Monroe, Greg Elliott and the eight anonymous volunteers of Houston. Our thanks also to the many who went for screening in order to donate. A private cremation ceremony was held at Brookside Funeral Home and Cemetery in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM followed immediately by a Memorial Celebration at Mulhearn Funeral Home 165/Sterlington Road.
