Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until time of service. Jack was born in Monroe, LA on November 10, 1966, and died on October 20, 2016, at his residence in Bessemer, AL following a sudden illness. A graveside service was held on October 29, 2016 at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL. He is survived by his mother, Glenda "Jerri" Miles; sister, Brenda Miles Tarver (Cleve); nephews, Matthew Branch (Liana) and Jacob Branch; and niece, Kaitlin Tarver all of Monroe, LA. He is preceded in death by his father, Ruben Daniel Miles; grandparents, Ruben C. and Margaret Miles of Bessemer, AL and Jerome and Geneva Arnold, Sr. of Hilliard, FL. Jack was a 1985 graduate of Catholic High School in Little Rock, AR and was an active member of the CHS and Little Rock Dolphins Swim Teams. Early in high school, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was a distinguished member of the BSA Order of the Arrow Honor Society. In May of 1987, he earned an Associate of Arts degree from Northern Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. He continued his studies at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and later earned a B.A. in History from Columbia University in New York, NY. After college, he followed in his father's footsteps by honorably serving in the United States Air Force for eight years. Most of his Air Force career was spent overseas in the Air Intelligence Agency Squadron at Osan Air Force Base in South Korea and Mildenhall RAF in Suffolk, England. In 1998, he was assigned to an Operation Desert Storm special intelligence mission tour at Prince Sultan Air Base in Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia. During his Air Force career, Jack was awarded an AF Achievement Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, AF Longevity Service Award, AF Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal among others. After retiring from the Air Force, he returned to the United States and entered the civilian workforce as a Classified Security Lead with top U.S. government defense contractors including Boeing Missile Defense and the Sierra Nevada Corporation.
