Funeral services for Mr. Ruben Daniel Miles, age 75 of Monroe, will be held on Tuesday, January 12th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Lexington Ave. in Monroe with Reverend J. Roddy Taylor officiating. Pallbearers will be Lamar Buffington, Jim Dimos, Alan Eppinette, Sydney Seegars, Dr. John Spence and Charles Wilkins. Mr. Miles was born in Fairfield, AL on April 21, 1934. He died on January 9, 2010 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Miles was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. He graduated in 1960 with a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of Alabama and remained an active alumni and proud BAMA fan throughout his life. In his later years, he was forced to adopt the "Purple and Gold" as his second favorite team when his grandson, Matt, became an LSU Tiger. On his last wakeful night, he proudly watched his Crimson Tide win the National Championship once again. Ruben, fondly known as "Big Dan" to those who had the pleasure of knowing him, worked as a District Manager for General Motors, Buick Motor Division, for 36 years before retiring in Monroe. After retirement, he became a beloved and familiar face at Alliance One Advertising, sharing stories with the gang and visiting with his favorite sales reps. Mr. Miles is survived by his wife of 49 years, Glenda Jeraldine (Jerri) Miles; daughter, Brenda Miles Tarver and husband Cleve of Monroe; son, Jack B. Miles of Fairbanks, Alaska; and grandchildren, Matthew Branch, Jacob Branch and Kaitlin Tarver. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben Clarence Miles and Margaret Elizabeth Caller Miles; sister, Vera Jean Miles Stalcup and husband Curtis Stalcup. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 11th at Mulhearn Funeral Home on Old Sterlington Rd. in Monroe. A special Memorial Service will then be held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at his hometown family church - Hueytown First Methodist. A family graveside service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Dan Miles to the American Cancer Society, The University of Alabama "Our Students, Our Future" campaign, or to the charity of the giver's choice.
