He was born on March 28, 1953 in Ruston, LA, and resided most of his life with his wife and family in West Monroe, Louisiana. Born to Alva Cled Miller and Dorothy Winstead Miller, Jerry became the epitome of an intelligent, hard-working, and religious man. At the age of nineteen, he married Deborah "Debbie" Gail Arrant on July 21, 1972. He received both a B.A. and a B.S. from Louisiana Tech University in architecture and structural engineering. For most of his adult life, Jerry worked as a structural engineer for Architecture + in Monroe, Louisiana and helped design buildings across the entire United States. In Monroe alone, he worked on such iconic local structures as Pecanland Mall and Delta Community College. He was a member of Forsythe Avenue Church of Christ and a ham radio enthusiast. Jerry is preceded in death by his father Alva Cled Miller and is survived by his mother, Dorothy "Dot" Miller; wife, Debbie Miller; son, Gerald "Al" Alva Miller, Jr. and wife Leigh; daughters, Miranda Miller Johnson and husband Joshua , and Michelle Miller; sister, Laura Miller Beavers and husband Sam; grand-daughters, Trinity Johnson and Katy Johnson. He was a funny, caring and thoughtful person, and an avid reader, music-lover and electronics enthusiast. Jerry was always ready and able to offer advice or help on almost any topic ranging from carpentry and car maintenance to structural designs or computer construction. A beloved son, father, grandfather and friend, he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held at Kilpatrick Funeral Home on Lamy Lane in Monroe, Louisiana on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Bro. John Dobbs officiating. Interment will be at Kilpatrick's Serenity Garden in West Monroe, LA.
