Two survive her today: Edgar Garrison of Sicily Island and Annie Lee Kuchinskas of Ft. Lauderdale, FL 96. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, B K Miller, Sr., her parents, Eugene and Annie Garrison; sisters, Joe Francis Peck and Eunice Enright; and a brother, Clarence Garrison. Survivors are her three children: Joy Vaught and her husband, Gordon, of Jena; Charles Miller and his wife, Evelyn, of Sicily Island; and B K Miller, Jr. and wife, Martha Ann, of Ruston. Her grandchildren are Mary Eva Windham and husband, Scott of Jena; Christy Stillwell and husband Matt, of Shreveport; Charlene Miller of Shreveport; Byron Miller, III and wife Cynthia of Nederland, TX; Michelle Hammock and husband David of McKinney, TX. Her great grandchildren are Cameron and Amanda Windham of Jena, Aiden Stillwell of Shreveport, Victoria, Morgan, and Kinsey Miller of Nederland, TX, and Zachary, Lindsay, and Braeden Paul of McKinney, TX. She is affectionately known by all of these as "Mamaw" Miller. Mrs. Miller was raised on a farm where everyone in the family had their share of chores each day. She enjoyed sharing stories with her family about her growing-up days. She went to school on a horse-drawn school wagon. After high school, she attended Northwestern State College for one year in the business curriculum. Her early house was a wood frame structure with no electricity, no inside plumbing or running water, and a wood-burning stove on which she cooked. Refrigeration was the old "ice box." The ice man delivered a block of ice and set in the box. She bought groceries from a rolling grocery store. Live chickens were often held in a caged box for sale or bartering. She made her profession of faith and was baptized at Pine Hill Baptist Church out of Sicily Island. Later she moved her membership to First Baptist Church in Sicily Island after her family moved into town. During some of that time, she taught Sunday school. Other activities included membership in the Eastern Star, and she served as secretary for the Catahoula Council on Aging. After her husband's death in 1986, she lived alone in Sicily Island, but her last several years were lived in the Mary Anna Nursing Home in Wisner. While there she was well cared for, and her family wishes to thank all those employees for loving and ministering to the needs of our "Mamaw Miller." Mrs. Miller will be remembered as one of the most enjoyable persons to be around. She always saw the bright side of any situation and was able to make others smile and laugh. Thanks to all who loved her and helped make her life an enjoyable one. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Highland Park Cemetery, First Baptist Church, or a charity of choice.
