MILLER Funeral services for Mr. John "JD" Davis Miller, Sr. of West Monroe will be 10am Wednesday at the chapel of Griffin Funeral Home in West Monroe with the Rev. Jeffrey Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5pm- 8pm Tuesday at the funeral Home. J.D. Miller was born on February 22, 1925 in Freeport, Illinois and passed away at his home in West Monroe on May 31, 2014 at the age of 89. He is survived by a large family who are saddened by their loss. Survivors are his wife of 48 years, Theresa Gilmore Miller; seven children, 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. His children and their spouses are: Ann Miller, John and Marie Miller, Judy and David Arnold, Dusty and Angie Miller, Randy and Traci Miller, Tara Chriceol, and Chris and Debbie Miller. His grandchildren and their spouses are Sterling and Dustin Jones, Marilyn and Brian Rawls, John Davis and Kim Miller, Myra and Jeremy Purvis, Theresa Arnold, Dylan and Ashley Miller, Taylor Crowell, Makenzie Miller, Brandy Miller, Jordan Miller, Will Ragan, Kendall Miller, Justin Chriceol, Courtney and Corbin Reynaud, Morgan Chriceol, and Michelle Lenard. Great-grandchildren include, Macy Rawls, Emily Rawls, Travis Rawls, Nicole Miller, Taylor Miller, David Allen Purvis, Dustin Miller, Destiny Miller, and Braysley Reynaud; also survived by siblings, Viola Miller Nugent, Miles Miller, Phoebe Miller Detor, and Jimmy Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd Cecil and Viola Miller; his first wife, Marie Faulkenberry Miller; son, Richard Leon Miller; grandson, Jesse Daniel Miller, and brothers, Floyd Miller and Robert "Bob" Miller. When WWII began, JD left high school before receiving his diploma and joined the navy. He served for 32 months in the South Pacific as a radio operator. He returned to north Louisiana and worked for the railroad in southern Arkansas while starting his family. When the Korean conflict began he was called back up to serve but due to his young family he remained in the states. He taught while stationed in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He again returned to north Louisiana working for the railroad as depot agent. Retiring from the railroad he began working as a TV and appliance repairman. Later, he went to work in the maintenance department at LSU Medical Center in Monroe. Retiring again, he enjoyed his hobbies. He was a Ham Radio operator known by the call letters W5MRT. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and traveling. Most of all he enjoyed getting together with his family. Pallbearers will be John Miller, Dusty Miller, Chris Miller, Randy Miller, John Davis Miller, Dylan Miller, Justin Chriceol, Jordan Miller, Will Ragan, and Kendall Miller.
