EDWARD LYLE MILLER

A funeral mass celebrating the life of Mr. Edward Lyle Miller, 87, of Monroe, 
LA will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Jesus the Good 
Shepherd Catholic Church in Monroe, LA, with Rev. Job Edathinatt Scaria 
officiating. Mr. Miller died peacefully at his residence on February 15, 2016, 
surrounded by his family. "God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not 
to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, 'Come to me.'" Entombment 
will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Mulhearn 
Funeral Home in Monroe, LA.

All those who knew "Big Ed" know that he worked hard and played hard as well. 
Growing up in the country, he was an ardent outdoorsman, fisherman, hunter, 
and an accomplished marksman. As a graduate of Waterproof High School, he was 
a proud member of the state championship football team. His athletic prowess 
continued at LA Tech, where he played football and graduated with a B. S. 
degree in Finance. Upon graduation from Tech, he enlisted in the Air Force, 
where he attained the rank of captain. He and "Libby" met during their Tech 
days, and they married prior to his reporting to his first base assignment to 
begin their life journey together. After being stationed numerous places, he 
and Libby returned to Monroe to rear their family.

He was the former owner of Miller's Car Washes, The Muffin Tin, and Golf 
World. He was a founding director of Security Bank and board member of Capital 
Bank.

Mr. Miller was involved in various community activities that included being a 
board member of the Monroe Housing Authority for 25 years. He was fulfilled 
working with the board, who ultimately became his close friends, as they saw 
their efforts come to fruition. He had such pride in being a part of the 
building of Passman Plaza, McKeen Place, Ouachita Grand Plaza, along with many 
other projects. As a leader of the Republican Party of Louisiana, he earned 
the respect of both President Reagan as well as President George H.W. Bush. He 
accompanied President Reagan on Air Force One and met with President Bush in 
the Oval Office. His personal friendship with then Governor Dave Treen led to 
his involvement with the creation of the Louisiana School of Math, Science, 
and the Arts.

As a man of many interests, roses were one of his passions too. Ed was a 
longtime member of the Northeast Louisiana Rose Society, and anyone who caught 
him in his driveway knows he would love to tell you all about them. He was 
also a member of Bayou DeSiard Country Club. As a founding member of Jesus the 
Good Shepherd Church and School, Mr. Miller was always willing to help his 
church in any capacity called for during the fifty-four years his health 
permitted.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, David and Emily Miller, and his 
brothers and sisters, David F. Miller, William U. (Billy) Miller, Dalton W. 
Miller, Fred M. Miller, Lt. Colonel Emily U. Miller, Mary Lyle M. Roberson, 
Drake M. Wade, Elizabeth M. (Chookie) Anders, Frances M. Mack. His surviving 
sister is Agnes M. Nelson. He was also predeceased by his favorite bird dog, 
Jake, who he chased all over the southeastern and southwestern United States.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Elizabeth (Libby) Butler Miller; 
sons, Lyle Miller and wife, Lisa, and Michael Miller and wife, Brooke; 
daughters, Patty Mauldin and husband, Mick, and Debbie Westbrook; 
grandchildren, Natalie Miller, Lauren Rosendahl, David Miller, Rob Miller, and 
Thomas Westbrook; and great-grandchildren, Garrison Land and Ryan Moore.

Pallbearers will be Representative Andy Anders, Mark Miller, Rob Miller, 
William David Miller, Dr. Joey Roberson, Burton Wade, Thomas Westbrook, and 
Ron Wilhite,

Honorary Pallbearers will be the surviving members of the TTS Golf Group.

Special thanks to those who provided loving care and devotion to our father 
during these last 2 years: Fred Martin, Lola Martin, Rose Richard, Sophie 
Traylor, Mary Dixon, and Mary Young. We would also like to express our sincere 
appreciation to Joan Smith for providing both spiritual guidance and 
Eucharistic ministry during these past 2 years. We will forever be grateful.

Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Mulhearn Funeral 
Home Hwy. 165.
