Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, at Ridge Avenue Baptist Church. Dr. Jim Wolfe will officiate and interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA. Beverly was born January 25, 1923, in Monroe, Louisiana. She graduated from Tioga High School in 1940, and from St. Francis Hospital in 1944 with a Registered Nurse degree. She worked as a surgical nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, and at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California. Beverly retired with 28 years of Civil Service, serving as a charge nurse in the OB/GYN Department of Vandenberg Air Force Base Hospital in California, and was a member of the National Active Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) in Monroe. She was a former member of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) both in California and Monroe. She was a member of Ridge Avenue Baptist Church in West Monroe for decades. Beverly loved gardening, birds, cats, crossword puzzles, dominoes, her church family and friends, and was known for her infectious sense of humor and lighthearted jokes. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Lucille Adams; brother, Kenneth Adams; daughter, Yvonne Hodges; grandsons, Brian and Joseph Norris; and by her husband, Leon Scott Mitchell. She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Aufderhaar (Dennis) of Paso Robles, California, Patricia Ryan (Dennis) of Spokane, Washington, Deborah Withrow of Honolulu, Hawaii, Barbara Shufelt of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Tamarah Taaffe (Michael) of Lompoc, California, 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Gaskin of Brownwood, Texas and Bonnie Bruce of Pearl, Mississippi, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ridge Avenue Baptist Church in support of the Backpack Program (food for children) at Ridge Avenue Baptist Church in West Monroe.
