The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cherry Ridge Baptist Church, Bastrop, LA. Mrs. Mixon, a resident of Sterlington, LA, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014 in Monroe, LA. Lisa was born in Bastrop, LA on July 25, 1961, and she filled every minute of the 53 years God gave her on this earth with love and commitment to others. A graduate of Bastrop High School and Northeast Louisiana University, Lisa made the most of every opportunity presented her and left an incredible mark on the lives of the people God placed in her path. She was a loving daughter to Jerry and Shirley Goodman; a devoted mother to Dusty Deere and Timmy Deere; a loving mother-in-law to Sydney Deere; a very proud and adoring grandmother to her prized granddaughters, Addi Deere and Maddie Grace Deere; and a committed and caring wife to her devoted husband of 26 years, Jim Mixon. She was also a very generous friend who always put the needs of others before her own and a very respected CenturyLink co-worker. Lisa had several passions in life, and she did an incredible job of turning her passions into gifts offered to those she loved. Among many other talents, God blessed Lisa with an amazing gift for cooking and Lisa continuously used that talent to create countless occasions that made other people feel special. She was a problem-solver, both professionally and personally. Successful in every facet of life, Lisa understood that life is really about the people we touch and the relationships we form. After a valiant effort to fight cancer, Lisa left this earth on August 3, 2014. She knew the Lord, and her family and friends are comforted by the fact that they know that she is now with Him, collecting her reward for a life very well lived. While she will be greatly missed, Lisa left a definite legacy. Her life taught those around her that a focus on people and relationship leads to ultimate success; that fanfare does not necessarily breed respect, but being consistent in your efforts to do the right thing does; and that whatever talents or passions God created in you can and should be used to love others. Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Tackett, Mitchell Tackett, Mike Tackett, Kevin Tackett, Gary Kimball, and Tom Pearson.
