Mrs. Mize was an eighth generation direct descendent of Benjamin Weeks who arrived in Massachusetts in the 1600's and whose descendents were were pioneer families in North Carolina in the 1700's and pioneer families in Flor Florida in the 1800's. She was educated in the local school system, graduating from from Lakeland High School in 1937. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Heal Health and Physical Education from Florida State University in 1941. After teac teaching for a year at Cherokee Junior High School in Orlando, Florida, Mrs. Mize Mize joined the faculty in the College of Education at Louisiana Tech Univ University in Ruston, Louisiana in September of 1942. She was awarded a Master of S of Science degree from New York University in 1947. In 1948, she married James Wilson Mize, a coach at Louisiana Tech University. Af After rearing her family, she returned to teaching dance at Tech from 1968 to 19 1979. Always active in the community, she taught a ballroom dance class for the Gi Girl Scouts for thirteen years, served for many years as the director of the Pe Peach Festival pageant, and was dance director for the March of Dimes Ball. She wa was a member of the Culture Guild, Tuesday bridge club, Daughters of the Am American Revolution, and the Ruston Film Commission and was a volunteer at Pi Piney Hills Art Gallery, the Dixie Theatre, and the Lincoln Parish Museum. With he her husband, she attended and supported Louisiana Tech athletic and other ca campus events. Coach and Mrs. Mize were longtime members of Trinity United Me Methodist Church. Mrs. Mize is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, James Wilson Mize, and a grandson, Wade Ratliff McKann. She is survived by a daughter, Sallie Delle Mize McKann McKann and her husband, Michael, of Baton Rouge, LA; a son, James Alexander Mize and his wife, Tara, of Houston, TX; three grandchildren: James Matthew McKann McKann and Katie Leigh and Alexandra Crooker Mize; and Wade's children, Madison an and Michael. Visitation will be held in the Chapel foyer of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston, LA on Saturday, January 28, 2017, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. with services at 2:00 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Aillet, Pat Ga Garrett, Allen Herbert, Barry Johnson, W. A. Jones, Ted McKinney, and Leo Sa Sanford. A private graveside service will follow for the family. Memorials may be made to The Jim Mize Scholarship Fund, Louisiana Tech Foundation, P.O.
