"Bill" Moran, Sr. passed away on Monday, August 1, 2016. Bill was born in Longview, TX on Oct 11, 1932, the eldest of seven children of Martin and Ruth Bertrand Moran. He married Jean Rainer Moran on March 26, 1962 in Monroe, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Bryan. He is survived by his children, Robert W (Andi) Moran of Choudrant, LA, Emily Ruth Bianchini (Ronald, Jr.) of Pittsburgh, PA and William B Moran, Jr of Monroe, LA. He is also survived by siblings Dan (Ida) Moran of Baton Rouge, Tom (Mary) Moran of Lafayette, Jean O'Connell of Thousand Oaks, CA, Maureen (Billy) Barron of Annandale, NJ and Ruth Ann Jayko of Philadelphia, PA and Brother-in-law Tom Rainer (Sandy) of Shreveport. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Paul (Brooke) Moran of Tyler, TX and Elaina, Elizabeth and Emilia Bianchini of Pittsburgh, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was raised in Shreveport, graduated from St. John's High School (Loyola College Prep) in 1950 and attended St. Louis University and Louisiana State University from which he graduated in 1955 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Upon graduation, he went to work with Halliburton as an engineer until 1961 with a three year interruption when he served in the US Air Force as a tanker pilot. He then entered the oil and gas business as owner of Trident Oil and Gas Corporation. He also had interests in real estate, motels, radio stations, and an oil products wholesaler. After retiring in 2000, he started volunteering two days a week at St. Vincent dePaul Community Pharmacy, a service he continued until his death. He was involved in Republican politics for many years, being a delegate to the 1976 Kansas City and 1980 Detroit National Conventions. Under Governor Dave Treen, he was a member of the State Mineral Board from 1980 to 1984, serving as Chairman 1982 to 1984. He was a long time active member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish Catholic Church, and was awarded the Diocesan Service Award for the Parish in 2004. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Vincent dePaul Community Pharmacy, 502 Grammont St., Monroe, LA 71207. Like his wife, Bill donated his body to LSU Medical School to assist in the education of future doctors. A memorial mass will be held at a date yet to be determined, and a notice will be published here.
