Interment will follow at St. Rest cemetery in Dubach, Louisiana. The family will receive guests on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. "Sam" was born on November 29, 1919 and left his earthly home for his heavenly home on May 20, 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Henry Morgan; his mother, Beulah Francis Morgan; a brother, Frank Morgan; and two sisters, Pearl Morgan Sharpe, and Estelle Morgan Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Loyce Fallin Morgan; two sons, James Gregory Morgan and wife, Jan of Dallas, Texas; Kenneth Wayne Morgan, and wife, Rhonda of Pensacola, Florida; one daughter, Melinda Morgan McMahone and husband, Don of Ruston, Louisiana. He was "Papaw Sam" to five grandchildren; Molly McMahone Stone, and husband, Brandon of Montgomery, Alabama; Emily Morgan of Pensacola, Florida; Lauren Morgan of Dallas, Texas; Colby Morgan of Dallas, Texas; Meagan McMahone Jenkins, and husband, Dustin of Lexington, South Carolina; step grandson Lawrence Lane of Pensacola, Florida; and two great granddaughters; Audrey Melinda Stone and Anna Morgan Stone of Montgomery, Alabama. He is also survived by one sister, Flora Morgan Melton, and one brother, Jack Henry Morgan, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their "Uncle Sammy". Sam was born in Rayville, Louisiana, the oldest son of a farming family that settled in Oak Grove, Louisiana. After graduating from high school he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving his country in Iceland, the Pacific during World War II, and again in Korea. After 20 years of service in the USMC he retired from military service and moved his family to Minden, Louisiana. Sam and his family became some of the earliest members of the newly established Emmanuel Baptist Church in Minden. He served there as trustee, and church treasurer for many years. After his retirement from Security at the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant, he and Loyce enjoyed happy years doing the things they loved; serving in their church, working in the yard, hunting and fishing with friends, and enjoying visits with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be remembered by his family as a loving Daddy and Papaw who spoke much wisdom and wit with few words. Serving as pall bearers for the service will be Colby Morgan, Brandon Stone, Dustin Jenkins, Lawrence Lane, Glenn Fallin, and Scott Leachman. Our family is so grateful for the care and concern shown to Dad from Dr. Ben Grigsby, Nurse Allie Lary, Hospice Compassus, and his special care givers, Mrs. Ketha Morrow and David Morrow.
