Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Farmerville, LA. Officiating the services will be Rev. Larry Ramsour and Rev. Kurt Auger. Interment will follow at Farmerville City Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville, LA. Myrtle was very fond of her home place, surrounded by the strawberry fields of her childhood where she enjoyed being with siblings and cousins along the Tickfaw River. She began her working career early in life at Sears & Roebuck in downtown Hammond. It was during this time that she met her husband, Gayle S. Morris, and they were wed on October 25, 1952. Myrtle had to quickly adjust to military life with her new husband, a US Air Force officer, and she became a homemaker. They were stationed on bases from New Mexico to Louisiana, Alabama, the Isle of Bermuda, Texas, Georgia and Florida. Gayle & Myrtle lived their Christian faith as examples to their six children born on five different Air Force bases. After military retirement, the Morris family resided in Baton Rouge for five years, and then moved to Farmerville where Gayle retired from state education. They were active in First Baptist Church during their 30 years in Farmerville before relocating to Ruston. Myrtle's life was dedicated to raising her children, and she delighted in all her grandchildren & great grandchildren. Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and her husband. She is survived by her sister, Estelle Childers of Springfield, and six children, Graham & wife Pam Morris of Ruston, Michael & wife Nelwyn Morris of Pride, La., Carol & husband Philip Wade of Bossier City, Jonathan & wife Kathryne Morris of West Monroe, David & wife Diane Morris of El Paso, TX, and Ellen & husband Robert Davis of Ruston. Grandchildren are Spencer, Trevor & Anna Claire Morris, Lisa Arzymanow, Katie Goebel, Meredith Thibodeaux, Mark Wade, John Philip Wade, Emily Kemp, Becky Thompson, Aaron Morris, Nathan Morris, Andrew Morris, Michael Davis, and Amanda Davis. Great grandchildren are Ethan & Emma Arzymanow, Sarah Goebel, Will Morris, Jo Thompson, and Maylin Davis, and there are numerous nieces & nephews. Pallbearers are her four sons and two sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers are her eight grandsons and Tim Tettleton of Farmerville, LA. The family wishes to thank the caretakers & staff of The Arbor & Terrace of Ruston as well as Legacy Hospice.
