Joseph Nastasi. USMC (Ret.), 91, of Monroe, LA will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Monroe, LA with Father Job Edathinatt Scurria officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA. Joseph Nastasi was born August 18, 1925, and passed away December 19, 2016. He was a graduate of St. Matthews Catholic School. During high school, he began working for his parents, Mike and Georgia Nastasi, who started the Monroe Candy Company. He started attending ULM but once the war began he joined the military, serving in WWII, Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was a highly-decorated officer retiring as a Colonel. Following serving in the wars, he decided to return to LSU where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree. Col. Nastasi was very civic minded and was a member of The Tower Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, and St. Vincent DePaul. He served on the board of directors for Conway Hospital and was a very active speaker for the elderly and the Council on Aging at the State Legislature. Col. Nastasi retired as the Regional Director of the Council on Aging and was very instrumental in obtaining the new office building on Ferrand Street, where it is currently located. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Louise Nastasi; second wife, Margarith Nastasi; sons, Michael Nastasi and Joseph Nastasi, Jr.; and sisters, Phyllis Black, and Mary Boyle. Survivors include his son, James Marco Nastasi; daughter, Rose-Mary Nastasi; grandchildren, Chris Nastasi, Rachel Nastasi, Whitney Scallan and Wesley Wilcher; great granddaughter, Aubree Nastasi; and great grandson, Cason Scallan. Visitation will be held from 11:30 A.M. until 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity .
