Father Zacharias Prakuzhy, c.m.i. will officiate. Rosary Services will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, 326 Lovers Lane in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Lake Providence, Louisiana. Mr. Nelson died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove, Louisiana. Mr. Nelson was a native and lifelong resident of Lake Providence where he was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He graduated from Lake Providence High School and LSU with a degree in geology. He served in company A of the 222nd Infantry Division in the European Theatre in World War II where he earned a Bronze Star. He owned and operated Brown F. Nelson and Sons Contractors, Inc. He was a member of the East Carroll Parish Police Jury for 30 years and served as its President for 23 years. He was instrumental in starting the Christmas lights on the lake. He loved to garden. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Julius Nelson and Ollie Hattie Hyland Nelson; 2 brothers, John Alfred Nelson and Thomas Nelson; 6 sisters: Adele Nelson Madison, Ollie Nelson Butler, Charlotte Nelson Knecht, Helen Mae Nelson, Hattie Nelson, and Zelma Nelson Burton. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Bonnie Sue Nelson of Lake Providence; son and daughter-in-law, John and Marsha Nelson of Lake Providence; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Gaynell Nelson of Prairieville, LA; son and daughter-in-law, Don and Barbara Nelson of Vicksburg, Mississippi; daghter and son-in-law, Betty and Bill Kelley of Monroe, LA; daughter and son- in-law, Nancy and Steve Coots of Longview, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Jim Baxter of Vicksburg; brother, Hyland Nelson of Monroe; sister, Grace Vandenburg of Schnectady, NY; sisiter, Myrtle Toomer of Trussville, AL; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Pallbearers are: Blake Johnson, Lane Lewis, Brown Kelley, Tate Walker, Tommy Nelson, Bill Burton, Jon Kelley, Jared Walker, and Joe Butler. Honorary Pallbearers are: Charlie Morrison and T. L. Jackson. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 between the hours of 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lake Providence.
