JOHN PRESTON NELSON, SR 

Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home Winnsboro, LA. 

Funeral services for Mr. John Preston Nelson Sr., 96, of Winnsboro, LA will be 
held at Temple Baptist Church on Friday, March 2, 2007 at 2:00 PM with Dr. 
Bill Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at Providence Memorial 
Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in 
Winnsboro. Mr. Nelson was born January 4, 1911 in Union, MS and passed away 
Tuesday February 27, 2007 at Ridgecrest Rehab & Retirement Center, West 
Monroe. He was a resident of Winnsboro and a retired Insurance Salesman. Mr. 
Nelson was a deacon and a charter member of Temple Baptist Church, a member of 
the Winnsboro Lions Club, and on the Franklin Parish Police Jury for 16 years. 
He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening and he was known for 
growing and giving Sugarcane to the neighborhood children for Halloween. He 
was preceded in Death by: Father-John Nelson, Mother-Mary Elizabeth (Sevell) 
Nelson, and 7 Siblings-Earl, Aaron, Bill, Ozro, Ulna, Flora, Lavada. Survivors 
include: Loving wife of 70 years-Opal Dickerson Nelson of Winnsboro, LA Son-
John Preston Nelson, Jr. and wife Janie of Centreville, MS.; Daughter-Evelyn 
(Nelson) Ballard and husband Don Sr. of West Monroe, LASister-Vieve Garvan of 
West Monroe, LA. Grandchildren-Don Ballard Jr. and wife Gaylen of 
Albuquerque,NM., Robert Ballard and wife Eri of West Monroe, LA2 Great 
grandchildren-Reva Ballard and Buck Ballard. The family will receive friends 
at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, 
March 1, 2007.
