SELINA LOUISE EVANS NESOM

Selina Louise Evans Nesom, age 98, resident of Shreveport and Oakdale, passed 
peacefully on June 11, 2015, at The Oaks of Louisiana in Shreveport, surrounded 
by family and much-loved caregivers. A private family service will be held 
under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Herbert Alden Nesom, and 
is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Beverly Nesom of Oakdale, 
daughter and son-in-law Suzybelle and Jimmy Hopson of Delhi, and daughter and 
son-in-law Jan and Chuck Horton of Bossier City, in addition to eight 
grandchildren; Laura Nesom Smith and her husband Steve, Todd Nesom and his wife 
Hallie, Kathy Nesom Spetter and her husband Chris, Jeff Nesom and his wife 
Lorena, Suzette Hopson Doughty and her husband David, Stacey Hopson Burgess and 
her husband Mark, Angie Horton Costakis, Amy Horton Bullock and her husband 
Adam and thirteen great grandchildren.

Our mother was a living example of a Proverbs 31 woman: strong yet gentle, with 
an open hand and heart, devoted to serving her family and the Lord. She loved a 
good strong cup of coffee with a slice of pie, and was never happier than when 
surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

We give special thanks to the staff of The Oaks for opening their hearts to our 
mother, and caring for her like she was a member of their own family.

"Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will 
be praised. … Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he 
praises her, saying, 'Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.'" 
(Prov 31:30, 29)
