Marion Collier officiating. Interment will follow in the New Winnsboro Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home. Fred Fife Nielsen was born on September 12, 1918 in Winnsboro, LA to L.R. and Julia Fife Nielsen. A lifelong resident of Franklin Parish, "Uncle Bubba" - as he was known to most - served his country during World War II in the United States Army as a member of the elite 10th Mountain Division, 110th Signal Company. He completed his training at Camp Hale in Colorado and served overseas in Italy, earning both Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals for his heroism and bravery. After returning from World War II, "Uncle Bubba" and "Aunt Bea" settled in Winnsboro to raise their family and build their life together. He enjoyed a very successful career with B. S. Landis Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1985. He was an avid quail hunter and fisherman as well as a devout member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, L. R. and Julia Nielsen; one brother, L. R. "Doodle" Nielsen, Jr.; his wife of 70 years, Bernice Wright "Aunt Bea" Nielsen; and a daughter, Nancy Jo Nielsen. He is survived by two daughters: Mary Ann Collier and her husband, Marion, of Crowville, and Susan Nielsen, of Monroe; a grandson, Clayton Collier, of Crowville; one sister-in-law, Charlene "Mutt" Brazell, of Winnsboro; and a host of nieces and nephews. Uncle Bubba was welcomed home on November 22, 2014 by his beloved wife and daughter. Visitation will be from 5:00 till 6:30PM in the Mulhearn Chapel with a rosary service at 6:00PM Monday, November 24th John Gerrard Ballance officiating.
