NOE Betty S. Noe died at the age of 87 on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. She was born in Abbeville, Louisiana on December 22, 1926 to George and Elisa Hebert Schlesinger. She was one of five children. At a young age, Betty was enthralled by singing and opera, and she attended LSU School of Music. After a career in social work, Betty met her future husband, James "Jimmy" Noe, Jr. She and Jimmy were married in 1955, and settled in New Orleans where they were blessed with five children, Lisa Deane (Tenny), James Noe III, Erin May (Chet), George Noe (Elizabeth), and Claire Koch (Josh). Betty was extremely active in The New Orleans Opera Association, where she was a board member and president of The Women's Opera Guild of New Orleans. She was also a board member of the New Orleans Ballet Association, a member of the State Arts Council, the Louisiana State University Foundation, and was appointed by President Reagan to be on the advisory committee of the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts. She was a Knight of The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, and a recipient of The Order of St. Louis. While doing all of this, Betty always found the time to care for her beloved rose garden. Betty loved all things of beauty and delighted in the appreciation of others for these things. Above all, Betty loved to tell funny stories and make people laugh. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, James A. Noe, Jr., and her three siblings, Nona, Marjorie, and Ed. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Claire, Ed, Laura, Anna Gray, Elisa, Mary and Margot, her younger sister, Barbara Broussard, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be terribly missed. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Good Shepherd (formerly St. Stephen), 1025 Napoleon Ave. in New Orleans, on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 1:00PM. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 11:30AM.
