Ross was a graduate of Neville High School, class of 1959, and Northeast Louisiana University, class of 1964. Ross was an All Gulf States Conference Lineman, an All American Lineman, and was drafted by both the Denver Broncos and the New York Giants. He signed a no-cut contract with the Denver Broncos as an offensive guard, but left a promising athletic career to serve his country as a Captain in the United States Army during the Viet Nam conflict. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor and Heroism. He remained active in the U.S. Military Reserves for many years. Ross was unique in that he excelled academically, was a gifted artist, but was also a 265 pound terror on the football field. After his military service, Ross returned to Louisiana and enjoyed a career in hospital administration with the State of Louisiana for many years. He served as Administrator of Pines Treatment Center, Shreveport, La., from 1985 until his retirement in 2003. Known for his great sense of humor, Ross spent many hours entertaining family and friends, whether they wanted him to or not! Even during his final days, Ross made the effort to make others around him laugh with his corny one-liners. He was well known for his interesting uses of duct tape, "fixing" anything and everything with it. Ross' family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Manish Dhawan, Dr. Steen Trawick and the staff at both the Regional Oncology Center and Christus Schumpert Highland. We also appreciate the loving care provided during his final days at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home. Memorials may be made in Van Ross Nolan's name to the Northwest LA War Veterans Home, 3130 A.R. Teague Pkwy., Bossier City, LA 71112. How can you measure the value of a man? We measure Ross' value by his faith, his heart, his family, and his friends, and by how much our lives were enhanced by knowing him.
