Memorial services will be held Tuesday, May 13th, at 11:00 AM, at Grace Episcopal Church with the Reverend Father Richard Norman, Jr. officiating. A reception for friends and family in Kilbourne Hall will follow at 12:00 PM. Arrangements are by Kilpatrick Funeral Home. A lifelong resident of Monroe, Jamie was born here on April 1st, 1964, to Edward Thomas Norton, Sr. and Dorothy Louis Norton. He attended St. Paschal's School in West Monroe, advancing to high school at Subiaco Academy in Arkansas, where he graduated with honors in 1982. Jamie attended Northeast Louisiana University where he earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in fine art, specializing in raku pottery. He worked as an art teacher for Pre-K 3 through 8th grade classes at Grace Episcopal School in Monroe for fifteen years, inspiring numerous children to believe in their own abilities and cultivating self- expression through art. Jamie served on the Education Committee of the Board of Directors of the Masur Museum from 2006 to 2009, where he also set up annual exhibitions of his students' work during his tenure at GES. Two of his large raku pottery reliefs are permanently installed on iron gates at the University of Louisiana in Monroe. He also acted as the primary caregiver for three of his great-nieces following their mother's passing. Jamie was preceded in death by his mother and father, his eldest sister, Mary Louis Devillier, and his niece, Elizabeth "Beth Ann" Wood-Copes. He is survived by siblings Elizabeth Susan McFarland of Gartner, NC; Catherine Dewanna "Dee Dee" Wilkinson and husband George of West Monroe, LA; Edward Thomas "Bud" Norton, Jr. and wife Evelyn of Pollock, LA; Joseph Patrick Norton and wife Theresa of Jena, LA; and John Paul Norton of Dubach, LA. Memorials may be given to the trust in his name at Progressive Bank. The family extends their gratitude to the doctors and the nurses at St. Francis Hospital, the nurses and staff of Louisiana Hospice, and the families and staff of Grace Episcopal School and Church. Most sincere thanks goes to Sue Sartor, Ashley Burkett, Alycia Varytimidis, Beth Stokes, and Todd Newman for their assistance, guidance, and consideration over the past weeks. And a very special thanks goes to Jamie's niece, Brandi Norton Cook, for her tireless attention to Jamie over the last weeks of his life.
