Nelwyn was born on August 18, 1924, in Alexandria, Louisiana, and died on April 21 21, 2017, at home in Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elna and William Kelley; her brother, William M. Kelley; her husband, Fayette Bickley; her son, Louis Bickley; and he her husband, James L. Norwood, III. Nelwyn received her B.A. degree in history from Southwestern in Lafayette and a Master Master's degree in English from Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM). She was a was a dedicated and loved teacher at Bastrop High School, River Oaks, and NLU. She wa She was devoted to her work and her students, many who knew her as "Mrs. B." After retiring, she faithfully volunteered for over 22 years at Christian Comm Community Ministries. Traveling was one of her many interests. She often visited places in the states an and abroad which had some connection with history or the authors whose work she ta taught, especially English poets. Another interest was the theatre. For over thirty years she was a regular performer on the Little Theatre stage and consistently won awards for the roles she played. A favorite character she portrayed was "Miss Daisy." Nelwyn also worked with several celebrity guest artists such as Mercedes McCambridge, Andy Divine, and Patrice Munsel during the spring productions of the NLU Concert Se Series. Survivors include her daughter, Nelwyn (Kaye) Egan of Lake Winola, PA; grandchildren; Erin Egan and husband Bob Goldstein of Orting, WA.; Amy B. Latham and husband Scott of Monroe; Christopher Louis Bickley of West Monroe; step-children; Diane Norwood of Berkley, CA.; Leah Norwood of Villa Grande, CA.; J.L. Norwood, IV, of Minneapolis MN.; five nieces and nephews, eight great-grandchildren, and her beloved daughter grandchildren, and her beloved daughter-in-law Mollie C. Bickley Dunn. Nelwyn requested that a section immediately behind the family be reserved for form former students. She often said that her students were her other family. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the Parish House of of the church. The family would like to thank the staff at Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care of Monroe, Nita Gandy, Tieise Ardito, and Temicka Williams for their devoted care. Also thanks to Father Whit Stodghill, and to Janice H. Robinson, a former student, loving care-giver, and friend.
