BLANE O'NEILL

Funeral services for Father Blane O'Neill, O.F.M., 92 of Ruston, LA will be 
held at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic 
Church in Ruston. Father Michael Jennrich, O.F.M. Vicar Provincial will 
preside. Interment will follow at St. Paschal's Cemetery in West Monroe, LA 
under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, LA. Visitation 
will begin at 4:00 PM on Monday, April 3, 2017 at the church with a 6:00 PM 
prayer service in English, and an 8:00 PM prayer service in Spanish.

Father O'Neill was born in Chicago, IL on November 27, 1924, and died on 
March 28, 2017 in Ruston, LA. He was raised in Minneapolis, MN, entered the 
Franciscan High School Seminary in Hinsdale, IL, then entered the Franciscan 
Novitiate in Teutopolis, IL, completed theological studies in 1950, and was 
ordained a Franciscan Priest in 1951. He taught English for 20 years. Sent 
to Mexico to learn Spanish in 1969, he returned to teach both English and 
Spanish and began his journey into Hispanic ministry. He then served in San 
Antonio, TX; and returned to Chicago, IL where he later became manager and 
editor of the Franciscan Herald Press from 1985 to 1990. He then served at 
St. Louis, MO, and returned to San Antonio, TX in 1999. There, while semi-
retired, he served in various parishes until 2006 when he came to St. Thomas 
Aquinas Catholic Church and Student Center and initiated the Hispanic 
Ministry there.

Father Blane is survived by 3 nephews: Patrick, Brian, and Michael O'Neill; 
niece, Sharon Rice; 4 grand nieces; and 6 grand nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Franciscan Development 
Office, 3140 Meramec Street, St. Louis, MO 63118-4399.
