He was raised in a French speaking home and was taught English in the first grade. His youth was spent in Berlin and later Cohassett, Massachusetts. After graduating he joined the Air Force where he was at one time stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City. It was here he met his wife, LaWanda. They later settled in Bastrop and joined LaWanda's family business, Spillers Oil Company, where he became President and co-owner. Bob was always interested in having sports programs for the youth. For his work in helping establish the Little League baseball and football programs and in the purchasing of the land for Carter Park, he was awarded the Community Service Award in 1968. He was also awarded the Optimist Club's "Bob Harp Award" for his long standing work with the youth programs. He and several other men, including Albert Spillers, were responsible for establishing the Bastrop Boy's Club in the 1960's. He was a life-long member of the Optimist Club and past- president of the Morehouse Country Club. Many people remember Bob operating the clock for all the Bastrop High School basketball and football games in the 1960's. He loved sports, especially playing golf, and LSU football. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaWanda Stevens Ouellette; his sister, Olivette Velardo; and his brother, Antonio Ouellette. Bob is survived by his daughter, Cindy Bennett and husband, Mike, and his son, David Ouellette and wife, Kay. He was a proud granddaddy to his four grandchildren, Chris Bennett and wife, Tracy, Tessa Stutts and husband, Jason, Shawn Ouellette and wife, Megan, and Derek Ouellette and wife, Christine. He was known as "Grand Bob" to his beloved eleven great-grandchildren, Miller, Emma, and Davis Stutts, Manning, Max, and Miles Bennett, Connor, Josie, and Allie Rae Ouellette, and Annabelle and Scarlett Ouellette. Also left to cherish many happy memories with him, is his special friend, Phyllis Grant. Funeral services for Mr. Ouellette will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Christ Episcopal Church, Bastrop, Louisiana with Rev. Edward Head officiating. Interment will follow at the Carter-Nicholson Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Visitation will be held Tuesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time for services at the Parish Hall of Christ Episcopal Church. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons, Chris Bennett, Shawn Ouellette, and Derek Ouellette, and Jason Stutts, Justin Stutts, and Ray Witherington. Honorary pallbearers are Vance, Neal, and Keith Heaberlin and David Allen Laing.
