She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-six years, J. C. Pardue; parents, Frank S. and Janie L. Whitard; and brother, William F. Whitard and wife Carolyn. Mattie Demaris Whitard was born March 28, 1927, in Good Pine, LA; moved with her parents and brothers to Sterlington, LA; and graduated from Ouachita Parish High School. After high school, she enrolled at the Bish Mathis Institute (BMI), a business education college located in downtown Monroe, and graduated with a business degree. In 1945, she met and married the love of her life, J. C. Pardue, a soldier and war hero who had just returned from World War II; and in 1946, they married and established a home in Monroe, LA. She later worked for K&B Drugs where she was the Bookkeeper for twenty-five years, retiring in 1995. Both J. C. and Demaris Pardue were Charter Members of North Monroe Baptist Church where, during her younger years, she sang in the choir, was a member of the Women's Missionary Union (WMU), and worked in the nursery, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. Loved by family, friends, and co-workers, Demaris Pardue was a dear and loving Christian wife and mother. Blessed by God with a giving spirit, she was devoted to family and compassionate and kind to all she met. Her special loves were her two daughters, four grandchildren, and her three great-grandchildren. She will be daily missed by all. Her family would like to thank the friends and caregivers who have offered prayers and support over the last few months, specifically, Nurse Practitioner Matilda Stephens; Former POW Coordinator Naline Salone, Barksdale Air Force Base; Executive Director Jennifer Bass and Asst. Director Leslie Bates at Azalea Estates Assisted Living and her "family" there; and the nurses, nurse assistants, and staff at The Guest House in Shreveport, LA. Finally, and most importantly, the family extends great love and thanks to Penny Teagle, RN and Director of Nursing at The Guest House, and Dr. Clarence Teagle, without whom our mother's last days would have been infinitely more difficult. Pallbearers will be Charles A. Hill, Jr., Mark L. Williams, Charles A. (Trey) Hill III, Zachary Williams, Kenneth Matkins, Allen Whitard, and Colin Pardue. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Hill and Bartley Bourgeois. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the North Monroe Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association .
