Jeff Smart and Rev. Jeffrey Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home-Rayville. Mr. Parker was born March 3, 1922 in Scott County, Mississippi. He passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 surrounded by his loving family, at the Oaks in Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Edna Parker, and by his son Doyle, and two sisters, Kate Thompson and Rachal Cordell. In 1940, at age 18, he moved to Louisiana where he began working at the Commissary in Holly Ridge for Mr. George Franklin. In 1942, he found his lifes work, becoming a watchmaker apprentice at Hunt and Whitaker and Cook and Preddy. He later became one of the pioneer jewelry retailers in Monroe, establishing Parker's Jewelry in 1945 in downtown Monroe. He was a master watchmaker, repairing watches even after retiring from the retail business. Mr. Parker was a wonderful Godly man, accepting Christ as his personal Savior at age 38. He then served the Lord and his church, as a deacon at Start Baptist Church for 51 years. He not only professed Christ but he lived to please Christ and many are experiencing Christ's love today because he always took time and interest in people to share Jesus. He loved family time and gardening; raising tomatoes for family and friends was a special joy. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Irma Bennett Parker, four sons Tommy Parker and wife Sharon, Steve Parker and wife Wendy, Don Parker and wife Sherry, all of Start, LA and Gene Parker and wife Lanelle of Monroe LA, one daughter, Lana Johnston of Start. He is survived by two sisters Audy Anderson of Birmingham, Ala. and Rachal Guraedy of West Monroe, LA and one brother, Roger Parker of West Monroe. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 29 great children. Pallbearers will be grandsons; Trey Parker, Jeff Parker, Bradley Parker, Andrew Parker, Alan Parker, Michael Parker, Brett Parker and Cody Petrus. Visitation will be Friday, March 22nd from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home of Rayville.
