Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro. Interment will follow at Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Quitman. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Mr. Peel was born on June 2, 1928 in Fort Necessity to David and Blanche Thomas Peel. He attended Beech Springs School near the Jimmie Davis Tabernacle. He graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School where he played football and was on the 1945 State Championship Team. Mr. Peel retired from Smurfit-Stone Paper Mill where he held many positions, including the supervisor of the wood yard. He also retired after 21 years in the Louisiana National Guard with the rank of Master Sergeant. Throughout his life music was a great passion, rather playing in the band with his friends for years or in his churches he served later in life as a Methodist Minister. During his later years he served and helped many in churches in Louisiana and Arkansas. He is survived by his wife, Rose Stinnett Peel of Huttig, AR, two daughters, Sherri Peel Taylor and husband Jerry of Jonesboro, LA, Susan Peel Cook of Quitman, LA, and one son, Lewis A. (Bubba) Peel, Jr., of Jonesboro, LA and one step-son, Scott Clingan and wife Michelle of Huttig, AR, one sister, Carolyn Mazie and husband John of Cowicke, WA, and one brother, J.D. Peel of Quitman, LA. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two step-grandsons, two step-granddaughters and one step-greatgrandson and numerous nieces and nephews and close friends. Pallbearers will be, Clint Hays, Kenny Irvin, Truett Irvin, Billy Pipes, Mike Brown and Burl Brashear Jr. Honorary pallbearers are the remaining members of the 1945 Jonesboro-Hodge High School State Championship Football Team.
