J. Roddy Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 P.M. at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M on Monday, February 9, 2009 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe and an hour before the funeral service at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Jeanne was born October 9, 1930 in New Orleans, LA to Jean Cleveland and Gladys Forschler Rider. She died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at her home, after a valiant fight with cancer. Since moving to Monroe in 1965, she has been a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, whose members have been such a blessing to Jeanne and her family. Jeanne graduated from Eleanor McMain High School in New Orleans, SLI (ULL) with a B.A. in English, and NLU (ULM) with a Masters in English and an Education Specialist degree in Special Education. While at SLI, she met and later married John Pere on April 16, 1951. Until recently, she was an active member of E-SU, PEO, and Ouachita Parish Retired Teachers Association. Jeanne taught at River Oaks and West Monroe High School. Having a great appreciation of English literature and its authors, Jeanne was fortunate to travel many times to England as well as several other European countries. A special trip to France with daughters Elizabeth and Susan and granddaughter Cara made "We'll always have Paris" a favorite saying. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and son John Stephen Pere. She is survived by John, her loving husband of fifty-seven years; daughters Susan Thompson of Monroe, Elizabeth Touchstone and husband Mike of Canton, GA, and Rebecca Pere of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren Cara Parker and husband Clay of West Monroe, LA, John Touchstone and Will Touchstone, both of Canton, GA; and great granddaughters Audrey and Alexis Parker of West Monroe, LA Pallbearers will be Mike Touchstone, Craig Lott, Clay Parker, Bill Street, Joe Hoover, and Joey Bayles. The family would like to express gratitude for loving care to true friend Agnes Golson, Dr. Glenn Mills of Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, Jacinda Dupuy along with the nurses and staff of the Oncology Department at the LSU Health Center of Monroe, Hospice Care of Louisiana, and the members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Monroe, the Jeanne R. Pere English Graduate Scholarship at ULM, The Feist-Weiller Cancer Center of Shreveport, or the charity of your choice.
