Tim Neustifter officiating. Interment will follow at 1:45 PM at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be held Friday, October 7, 2016, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA. John was born February 14, 1926, in Shreveport to John D. and Myrtle Farmer Pere. He died Tuesday, October 4, 2016, after a brief but aggressive illness. Since moving to Monroe in 1965, he has been an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church whose members have been such a blessing to John and his family. John graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport and from SLI (ULL) with a degree in electrical engineering. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II before college and was grateful for the GI Bill which allowed him to more easily finish his college education. It was at SLI that he met his devoted wife Jeanne. John was a licensed Professional Engineer in both Texas and Louisiana and worked for General Electric until he retired in 1986. He continued working as a consultant, developing many friendships, especially at the paper mill in West Monroe. John's friendly ways, joking manner, and generosity will be remembered and missed by the family and friends that he has made through the years. John is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 57 years, Jeanne; son, John Stephen; and sister Camille. He is survived by his children, Susan Pere Thompson and partner Craig Lott of Monroe; Elizabeth Pere Touchstone and husband Mike of Canton, GA; and Rebecca Pere of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren, Cara Thompson Parker and husband Clay of West Monroe; and John and Will Touchstone of Canton, GA; great grandchildren, Audrey and Alexis Parker of West Monroe; and special blessing and family friend Agnes Golson. Pallbearers will be Larry Brakefield, John "Bookie" McCormick, Tommy Coleman, Joey Bayles, and grandsons, John and Will Touchstone. The family would like to thank St. Joseph's Assisted Living and Nursing Home and St. Joseph Hospice; his doctors, especially Dean Stockstill, Ronald Koepke, and Wayne Cranford for their care through the years; Drs. Donna Donald and Hill Hinkle for their compassion for him in the hospital; Jerry Blankinship for helping with any and everything; and, again, the members of St. Paul's. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Monroe, the John H. and Jeanne R. Pere Endowed Physics Faculty Development Fund (ULL), the Hiram Russell Mason Memorial Electrical Engineering Scholarship (ULL), or the charity of your choice .
