A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Crest Baptist Church West Monroe with Dr. Greg Clark officiating under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Kay was preceded in death by her sweet mother, Gwen Peters, by her paternal grandparents, Rev. W. I. and Ruth Peters, and by her maternal grandfather, James O. Johnston. Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her legacy are her father, Delwyn Peters (Edna), her sisters, Kimberly Peters Masters and Kelli Peters Craig (Phillip), her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Amy and Troy Johnston, her grandmother, Juanita Johnston, her niece Kassidi Craig, and her nephews T. R. Masters, Justin Wyatt, Brady Craig and Zach, Jake and Brody Johnston. Though she never gave birth to any children during her lifetime, she loved her niece and nephews as if they were her own and they adored their "KooKoo" beyond measure. Kay is also survived by her much loved and loyal canine companion, Larry. Born on June 21, 1967, Kay was a graduate of Jonesboro High School and Louisiana Tech and a member of the faculty of Ruston High School. An educator for 8 1/2 years, she had an impact on the lives of her students as teacher, mentor, counselor and friend and her sphere of influence will long be felt in the lives of her beloved students. She was a member of Cedar Crest Baptist Church, the Mary Clark D-Life Class, and the Triple Negative Breast Cancer group of friends. Kay was ever faithful to her family, her friends, her students, her church, and most of all, faithful to her Lord. Her testimony throughout her battle with cancer and until she drew her last breath was this: "I don't know what tomorrow holds, but I do know Who holds tomorrow. Remaining FAITHFUL to Him who has been FAITHFUL to me!" Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews,T. R. Masters, Justin Wyatt, Brady Craig and Zach, Jake and Brody Johnston, and Wayne Nash and Emile Frey. Honorary pallbearers will be Sarah Wages, Kim Goree, Missy Wooley, Melanie Colvin, Lindsay Bolton, Harryette Tinsley and Tara Turner. Visitation will be at Cedar Crest from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice .
