Cullen Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Marion LA under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Joe, retired from Century Tel, went to his heavenly home on November 16, 2015. He was a lifelong resident of Union Parish, graduate of Farmerville High School, and member of Fairview Church of Christ. Joe was a Veteran of the Vietnam Theatre (Sargent E5) stationed in Fairbanks, AK. He also was a 4th degree Black Belt in Isshinryu Karate and taught numerous students over the course of more than 15 years. Aside from his grandchildren, Joe's greatest passion was hunting. He was an avid turkey hunter but also loved hunting deer. Joe not only taught turkey calling and such, he taught others to love the outdoors the same way he did. He is preceded in death by his father, James A. Pickel. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 47 years Sharon Pickel, mother, Eddice Pickel, daughter, Natasha Pickel, son Jay Pickel and wife Brandy, daughter, Nadia Farris and husband Joey; grandchildren Tyler Holloway, Austin and Shelby Dalton Spillers, Alayna and Lindsey Fuller, and Cally and James Pickel, sister LaJune Edwards and brothers James (Bubba) Pickel and wife Vicky of Sulpher Springs, TX., and Jerry Pickel. Also numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and family. Pallbearers are Tommy Head, Michael Thomas, Greg Edwards, John Preaus, Glen Post III, Rich Lee, Dickey Cole, and Lyndon Carpenter. Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Blake, Jed Rhodes, Lanny Parker, Stein Baughman, Malcolm George, grandsons, and granddaughters. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the church.
