Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 16, 2015, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with burial at Mulhearn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Monroe, Louisiana. Family visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:30 PM, Thursday, January 15, 2015, in the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, Louisiana. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe, Louisiana. She was born on December 2, 1919, in Nichols, South Carolina to the union of James Austin Shelley and Johnnie Harley Mishoe. She attended and graduated from the Mullins Hospital School of Nursing in Mullins, South Carolina, and worked at various hospitals in South Carolina before meeting her husband, James R. "J.R. - Jimmy" Plaisance in North Carolina where he was serving in the Army. After discharge they moved to Monroe, Louisiana. She worked in the Labor and Delivery Department at both E. A. Conway Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center before leaving to take the position of Director of Nursing at St. Joseph's Home for Aged and Infirm (a position she held for 25 years) before retiring. Mrs. Plaisance was predeceased by her husband, James Roy "J.R. - Jimmy" Plaisance; parents, James Austin Shelley and Johnnie Harley Mishoe Shelley Small; her brothers, Pelton Shelley, Lacy Woodrow Shelley, James C. Shelley, Sr., Elson Shelley, Jerry Austin Shelley and Jack Laverne Shelley; her sisters, Mollie Shelley, Zetha Shelley Floyd Collins, Janice Shelley Johnson Morton, Marie Shelley Graham, Margaret Florence Dohmann and Betty Jean Shelley. Mrs. Plaisance is survived by her sons, Chris Plaisance of Monroe, Louisiana, and James R. "Ron" Plaisance of Louisiana, and daughter, Gaye Plaisance of Summerville, South Carolina; grandson, James Landry Plaisance (Jennifer) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; granddaughters, Lisa Anne Plaisance Luther (Gene) and Rondi Michelle Plaisance Jacob (Brett) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Myranda Pickering Foether (James) and Rianna Pickering of Summerville, South Carolina; great grandsons, John Austin Luther, Britton Cole Jacob, Ryan Plaisance of Baton Rouge and James Christian Foether and Alexander Foether of Summerville, South Carolina; great granddaughters, Ashlanne Luther, Brantley Grace Luther, Katherine Shelley Plaisance and Laney Plaisance of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; former daughter in law, Anne Plaisance of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and former son in law, Tom Hodge of Utah; special family friends, Melba Bradford and Joyce Howell and many nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons in law, Lane Plaisance, John Austin Luther, Gene Luther, Brett Jacob; nephews, Fred Dohmann, Larry Elliott, Billy DeLee and close friend, Richard Bradford.
