POHLMAN Edward Joseph Pohlman III "Eddie" passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 21, 2016. He graduated from St Matthews High School in 1955, and received his BA in Civil Engineering from Louisiana Tech University in 1960. A Bulldog through and through, he was president of the Civil Engineering Society for two years, Vice-President of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Vice-President of the Junior and Senior classes, a member of the ROTC drill team, and center on the Freshman basketball team. He then served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington DC where he met his wife-to-be, Kerstin Johansson of Uppsala, Sweden. He returned home to take the helm of Pohlman and Wilbanks Construction, where he served as President of the company for 46 consecutive years and a stint as Chairman of the Association of General Contractors. He was proud of his professional accomplishments, but even more proud of his leadership in Optimist International Club, whose motto is "Friend of Youth." A lifelong member, he was President of the Monroe Optimist Club before being elected Governor of the Louisiana District Optimist Clubs in 1980. In that role, he help found Octagon Clubs in high schools throughout the state. He was President of the Chauvin Racquet Club and the PTA of Jesus the Good Shepherd School. He enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, softball, bowling, golf, tennis, bridge, and taking part in all sorts of activities with his beloved family. Eddie was a devoted husband, a son, a brother, a coach, a friend, and a father. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kerstin; his sister Virginia; his children Michael, Karen, and John; many adored grandchildren, cherished in-laws and friends. Visitation will be Monday, December 26, 2016 from 4-6 p.m. at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 10 a.m.; Rev. Tim Hurd celebrant and Rev. Keith Garvin con-celebrant. Cortege will follow to interment at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. A reception to follow at Eddie's home, 3705 Gouville Dr, Monroe, LA. Pallbearers are Michael Pohlman, John Pohlman, Wendell Juneau, Philip Pohlman, Jacob Pohlman, Armand Breard, Gre Brennen, Ron Powell and Chad Elias. Honorary pallbearers are Col. Larry Horras and Jimmy Pohlman. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Sky's the Limit of Acadiana or the charity of your choice .
