NITA WHITE POLAND Rose-Neath Funeral Home Arcadia, LA Mrs. Nita White Poland, 99, of Arcadia, Louisiana died at home after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Arcadia at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 10, 2009. Reverend Jeff Hoffman will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday, January 9, beginning at 5:00PM. Internment will be at the Arcadia Cemetery. Mrs. Nita was born on December 29, 1909, and only child to Claude and Abbie Lee White of Bryceland, Louisiana. She graduated from Gibsland High School in 1927. The following fall, Nita and many of her classmates entered Louisiana Tech University. The next four years were busy happy years. In 1931, Nita graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Science and Home Economics, while serving as secretary of her graduating class and a charter member of Kappa Delta Sorority. After graduation, she returned to Gibsland High School and taught home economics. She met and married John D. Poland while both were teaching at the school in 1934. After their marriage, they moved to Monroe, Louisiana where they resided for 6 years. In 1941, they moved back to Arcadia where they owned and operated Poland Hardware and Furniture and Poland Truck and Tractor until they retired in early 1977. All of their lives, they were dedicated to community activities and especially the First Baptist Church in Arcadia. She was a charter member of the Inter Nos Club, member of Arcadia Service Club and Arcadia Garden Club. Mrs. Poland is preceded in death by her parents, William Claude White and Abbie Lee Watson White, her husband of 43 years, John D. Poland, devoted cousin Gloria Stinnett Yarborough, and best friend form 1927 until her death in 2002, Sue Henry Calhoun. She is survived by one son, Billy W. Poland, who is devoted to his family and many friends and animals, cousin Carol Kemp of Dallas, TX, Dr. Regan White Stinnett of Albuquerque, NM and a special friend Linda Choate King of West Monroe, LA. Pallbearers are John King, Judge Robert Butler (ret.), Greg Pafford, Chris Pilley, J. Rust Wimberly, Jr., Dr. Regan Stinnett, Rolle Walker and Willie Tobin. Honorary pallbearers are Sheriff John Balance, Dr. Henry Middleton, Todd Yerby, Tom Martin, Randy Wright, Harold Talbert, William Choate, James Ellis, Mayor Eugene Smith, Rodney Cook and Winston Walker.
