Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20 at 10:00 AM at Beulah Baptist Church in Farmerville under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend William Cottrell and Reverend David Martin. Burial will follow at the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Farmerville. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 19, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville. Mrs. Porter was born November 29, 1912, in the Cherry Ridge Community near Farmerville, and she lived in that community for most of her life. She was a graduate of Spearsville High School and Louisiana Tech University. She was a resident of the Ruston Arbor and Terrace for eighteen months. She retired from the Union Parish School System after over thirty years having served as both a teacher and a principal. She had a great affection for elementary school children, especially first graders, and she retired from Marion High School after teaching first grade in Marion for nineteen years. In addition, she enjoyed oil painting and sharing that talent with others. Family was her passion and she enjoyed her grandchildren and nieces and nephews to the fullest extent possible. She truly loved the Lord and spent many years teaching Sunday School at Beulah Baptist Church. Mrs. Porter is survived by her daughter and husband, Shirley and Bobby Reagan of Ruston; two grandsons: Robert Todd Reagan and wife Betty of Dallas, TX, Dr. Brendan Wesley Reagan and wife Betsy of Nashville, TN; five great-grandchildren: Kyle Wesley, Jackson Robert, Wade Lawrence, Blake William, and Paige Elizabeth Reagan; one sister and husband, Thelma and John Doles; one sister-in-law Floy Wade; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Octavie Webb and Marjoree Williams. She is preceded in death by her husband William Wesley Porter, her parents Robert Brooks and Birdie Banks George Wade; four brothers: Lloyd, Dick, Kenneth, and Percy Wade; and one sister Shirley Faye Wade Elkins. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Dale Elkins, Bobby Elkins, Hez Elkins, Tom Elkins, Percy Wade, Jr., Thomas Wade, Wayne Wade, Donnie Wade, Barry Wade, Herbert Phillips, James Phillips, Roy Phillips, and Martin Phillips. Special appreciation is given to the staff at the Ruston Arbor and Terrace and Dr. Ben Grigsby. In lieu of flowers, planned memorials may be made to the Beulah Baptist Cemetery Fund or the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home.
