He was born May 3, 1919, in Newton, Mississippi, to Carrie Brown and John C. Potter Sr. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1944. Shortly thereafter, he met and married Lucille Beatrice Wallace of Monroe on June 27, 1948. Together they spent most of their lives in Monroe and dedicated their lives to serving the Lord and each other. Everyone that knew them knew they were truly devoted to each other. He was lovingly referred to as "Uncle Buddy" by the Potter family and as "Uncle Potter" by the Wallace family. Potter spent his business career in the business office supply industry with many loyal clients, and retired from Stuart's at the age of 90. Potter and Lucille had no children of their own, but were blessed by the tremendous love of all of their nieces and nephews, and they, in turn, loved their nieces and nephews as children of their own. Potter is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Wallace Potter; brother John C. Potter Jr. and his wife, Ernestine Hanan; sister Florence Potter Hughes and her husband, George; and his brother Evan. He is survived and honored by his loving nieces and nephews John C. Potter III and his wife Frances of Huntsville, AL; Carrie Potter Mathis and her husband Stephen of Springfield, MO; Margaret Hughes Hayes of Bethesda, MD; Barbara Hughes Hosein and her husband, Everold of Carmel, IN; George "Richard" Hughes and his wife, Nancy, of Overland Park, KS; David Potter Hughes and his wife, Diana, of Midwest City, OK; Robert C. "Bobby" Wallace and his wife, Nemery, of West Monroe; Patricia Wallace Gray and her husband, Courtland of Plano, TX; Marianne Wallace Guillory of West Monroe; David Wallace and his wife, Alicia, of Nashville, TN; Greg Wallace and his wife, Denene, of Douglasville, GA; Melanie Wallace Frazier of Baton Rouge, LA; Paula Wallace Distler and her husband, Carl, of Huntsville, AL; and Karen Wallace Childs of Fayetteville, TN. Also honoring his memory are numerous great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Kilpatrick's Funeral Home, 1200 Lamy Lane, Monroe, LA from 5:00 until 7:00 Friday, June 3, 2016 and graveside services will be at the Masonic Cemetery of Newton MS, at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 4, 2016. The family would like to express their appreciation to Bobby & Nemery Wallace for their devotion and care for Potter, and to the staff of the NELWVH for the care provided to Potter during his stay there.
