He was born December 31, 1952 to James and Myrtle Casey Powell in Shreveport, LA. Richard was a graduate of NLU in 1975 and a member of the Acacia fraternity. His career in the insurance industry afforded him the ability to cultivate many life- long friendships. He had a passion for sports and loved coaching Ryan in his youth and cherished the time he had watching his grandsons play as well. Richard's life was based on his strong faith in Jesus Christ, his love for his family and friends and volunteering to help those in need. Even in the midst of declining health he was determined to share his testimony. Richard was a member of Whites Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake, TX and prior to moving to the DFW area, was a member of First United Methodist in Monroe, LA. He was a member of the Gideon's International Association and was actively involved in handing out free Bibles to schools. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; sister Yvonne Bettis; sister Jane Lane; brother Don Powell. Left behind to cherish his memory is his son Ryan Powell and wife Jamie of Trophy Club, TX, grandchildren Will and Luke Powell, brother Dewey Powell and wife Charlis of Houston, TX; sister, Sarah Grayson and husband Dale of Bossier City, LA; along with numerous nieces, nephews and so many friends whom he loved. A memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 2pm at First United Methodist Church in Monroe, LA with Pastor Lynn Malone to officiate; Reception to follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. A special thanks to Baylor Medical Heart and Vascular Team in Dallas, our "family" of 10th Floor Roberts and to the Angels at Baylor All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth for their incredible support and care of Richard during his last days. A very special thanks to Whites Chapel United Methodist Church Ministry team for their love and support of Richard and his family.
