Interment will follow in the Hasley Cemetery. Mrs. Gardner was born on October 1, 1927 in Booneville, MS and passed away on November 30, 2010 in West Monroe, LA. She retired from the Louisiana Office of Family Security, where she worked in several capacities. The last of which was Quality Control Reviewer. Mrs. Gardner was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, where she was Ordained as an Elder and served as Clerk of the Session, Treasurer and Historian. She was a member of the Ouachita Parish Women's Republican Club and serving as Treasurer and Recording Secretary. She also served as Secretary of the Monroe Area Chapter of Retired State Employees Association and was commissioned to work at the voting polls. Mrs. Gardner is preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Lee Gardner and her parents, Frank Benson Powell and Clestie Ritter Powell. Survivors include her children, David Lee Gardner and wife, Peggy of West Monroe, LA and Patricia Roper and husband, Ben of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren, Shannon Kersey Capps and husband, Paul, Timothy Kersey both of Montgomery, AL and Sara Gardner of West Monroe, LA; and brother, Ben Powell and wife Missouri of Point, TX. Pallbearers will be Glen Arant, Bill Blackstock, Paul Capps, Dan Darnell, Timothy Kersey and Leroy Viola. Visitation will be held from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA. Memorials may be made to a church program of your choice, The Gideon's International, or the animal shelter of Ouachita Parish. The family wishes to thank the staff of West Monroe Guest House, Hospice Compassus, Dr. Brian Kryer, the good neighbors of Butler Ave., and the many people who have expressed their love and support to Mrs. Gardner and family during this time. In addition to dedicated love for her immediate family, Mrs. Gardner was active in family genealogical research and supported re-unions and family get-togethers on both sides of her family.
