Morrison, Esq., of this place, was killed by the accidental discharge of his gun on Monday the 10th inst., while hunting on the plantation of Josiah Mason, on Bayou DeSeiard [sic, DeSiard]. The circumstances, as near as we have learned them, are as follows: He had shot a duck, and placed his gun (one barrel of which remained loaded) against a log, while he went after the duck. Upon his return to the log, he caught hold of the muzzle of his gun and drew it towards him, when it fired, the load entering just below the breast and killing him instantly. It is supposed that the hammer of the gun caught on the log, which drew it back and caused the explosion. Additional Comments: Michael is found on the 1850 Jefferson Parish census in the home of his father George. He is listed as 9 years old. 9 years after Michael's death, his father George and several siblings would die in a tragic fire. That account can also be found in the Ouachita Parish Gen Web Obituary Archives.
