RAGSDALE Funeral services for Philip A. Ragsdale, age 62, of West Monroe will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Monroe with Pastor Karen Akin and Dr. Allison Moody officiating. Visitation will begin prior to services at 1:00 P.M. at the church under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Philip was born on September 12, 1953 in Corona, California and passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He died after fighting a valiant battle against cancer for several years. His strong Christian faith supported him throughout his life, particularly during his struggle against his disease. Shortly after his birth, Philip's family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas where he spent most of his youth. He served in the Marines reaching the rank of Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge. After completing his military service, Philip attended Arkansas Tech, graduating with honors with a degree in accounting. He then passed his CPA exam and continued with his accounting practice throughout his lifetime. At the time of his death, Philip was serving as the Chief Financial Officer at Paramount Healthcare Consultants, LLC. Philip did not allow his diagnosis to define him and remained active even playing tennis with his regular Sunday afternoon group at the Monroe Athletic Club which he did for over twenty years. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. He was also a regular participant in the Potluck Poker Group. Philip was a proud former President of the Cavaliers, an organization he joined in college and where he made lifelong friends. Mr. Ragsdale was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Maryann Ragsdale. His survivors include his loving wife of fourteen years, Lisa Finley Ragsdale and her son, Grant Owens. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Ragsdale; sister, Ruth Adele Gabriel; sister in law, Becky Ragsdale; brother in law, John Gabriel; nieces, Augusta Cheri, Celeste Cramer and Jennifer Griffin; nephews, Henry Gabriel, Samuel Ragsdale, Joseph Ragsdale and Kiyu Gabriel and together with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Other survivors include his sister in law, Susan Cox and her husband, Rodney Cox and their children, Christopher Cox, Haley Cox and John Conner Cox; and his brother in law, Chuck Finley and his children, Wynter Finley and Raine Finley. Pallbearers are members of the Potluck Poker Group including Michael Echols, Tim Kane, Larry Voorhees, Billy Andres, Basil Doles and Bill Whatley. Philip's wishes were to be buried in Arkansas at Pisgah Cemetery in Pottsville, Arkansas which will take place on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. with military honors.
