James proudly served in the U.S.M.C. James moved to Vieques 5 years ago to live his dream of "island life". Through his exuberant personality and giving heart, he fast became a "local" with many friends. His smoked meats were famously known on the island as well. Back in July after adopting his 3rd canine friend, he saw a need to quickly raise money for the shelter. He issued a challenge for donations by promising to shave his unruly, long beard. As the monies started to come in, he comically would shave off parts of his beard, down the middle, one side off, etc. until his goal was reached. He loved his "pupfrogs" Maybelline, Roxy and Gunner. This is a FB post he shared a while back: "God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain. He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and light for the way". May your eternal light shine James. James is survived by daughter Kaylee Murdie of Bay, AR, his mother whom he adored, Jenny Bendily and husband Glenn, and grandmother Sandra Rice, all of West Monroe, LA; his uncles, JR Rice and wife Carroll of Garland, TX and Brian Rice and wife Barb of Ann Arbor MI; sisters, Tiffany Taylor, April Evans, Shanna Dean, Sarah Waddell; and father, Robert Waddell, Jr., all from Concord, NC. A 'Celebration of life' service will be held on the island in March during the week of the 18-25, and his ashes will be spread along his favorite beaches. In lieu of flowers, the family ask for donations be made to Vieques Humane Society, PR-200 Vieques, 00765 in his name File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/ouachita/obits/r/rice5000nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/lafiles/ File size: 2.3 Kb
