ELIZABETH RAINWATER ROANE
Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Ruston, LA

Elizabeth Rainwater Roane was born November 11, 1916, in Dubach, LA to 
Elizabeth James Rainwater and Byron Hudson Rainwater, Sr. She departed from 
this life May 6, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: James Thomas Sumrall, 
the father of her children; Dr. John A. Thomas; and Dr Henry S. Roane; and her 
sister, Margaret Rainwater Fuller.

Elizabeth graduated from Ruston High School, where she was the 1932 Homecoming 
Queen, from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, and Columbia University.

Libby was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was active 
in Trinity United Methodist Church activities, the Culture Guild, and the 
P.E.O Sisterhood. She enjoyed flower arranging and won many ribbons with her 
designs in the Ruston Garden Club. Many people remember the candles in the 
windows of her family home at Christmas. This tradition was started by her 
parents and faithfully continued as long as her health permitted.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Davenport (Ron), Margaret Anne 
Emory, and Tom Sumrall (Martha); grandchildren: Tom Davenport (Priscilla), 
Martha Boshnick (Billy), Sally Spillane (Scott), Shannon Sumrall and Sara 
Sumrall; great grandchildren: Corey and Alex Davenport, Maggie Spillane, Alec 
and Andy Boshnick; the children of Dr. Henry Roane and the children and 
grandchildren of Martha Sumrall; brother, B. H. Rainwater, Jr. (Marjorie), and 
niece Jane Fuller Ball (Jim) and their families.

A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Trinity 
United Methodist Church with Rev. Rolly Walker officiating. A private 
graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, LA. She will 
be buried next to her husband Jimmy Sumrall.

Visitation will be Friday, May 8, 2009 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at 
Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Davenport, Corey Davenport, Billy Boshnick, 
and Scott Spillane.

The family wishes to thank Dr. J. V. Jones, Dr. George Smith, the staff of the 
Russ House, The Arbor and Terrace, Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation, 
HealthSouth of North Louisiana, and Northern Louisiana Medical Center. Special 
thanks to Cynthia Ryals, Louise McAdams, Gary Cathey, Sue Billberry, and Joyce 
Martin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church 
or charity of choice.
