Roberson, age 73, was born in Marion, La., on June 16, 1927, and passed away March 20, 2001, in Monroe, La., after a lengthy illness. He attended Crosely Elementary, Ouachita Parish High School and Northeast Louisiana Junior College. He was a veteran of WWII and saw action in the south Pacific, including Iwo Jima and Okinawa, serving on the staff of Admiral Harry W. Hill and was very patriotic. After college, he was employed by Monroe Office Equipment and Home Office Supply of West Monroe. After relocating to Colorado, he began a successful career in the restaurant business as owner/operator of McDonald’s franchises in Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. Upon retirement, Mr. Roberson returned to Union Parish. He was a former member of the Lions Club of West Monroe and served as the first elected president of the Optimist Club of West Monroe. In addition, he was active in the Boy Scouts and was Scoutmaster of Troop 33. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman and was a charter member and Officer of Albino Deer Hunting Club and had a special affection for dogs. He never met a dog he didn’t like! Although he accomplished a great deal, he viewed his family as his greatest success. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Rowena Roberson of Farmerville, three sons, Alan D. Roberson Jr. “Bud” and wife Linda of Downsville, William A. Roberson “Willy”, and wife, Sharon of Farmerville, Carl H. Roberson “Ace” of Scottsdale, Ariz., one daughter, Gail Williams and husband, joe of Clyde, N.C. along with 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, March 22, 2001, from 5 to 9 p.m., at Farrar Funeral home. Funeral services for Mr. Roberson will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2001, at Farmerville First Baptist Church with Bro. Roger Johnson, Bro. Louis Barlett and Dr. James Parker officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Interment will be at Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe. Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are made to the America Cancer Society.
